  • To produce interns who are confident in their understanding of the Gospel of Christ and their ability to communicate that truth.
  • To produce interns who are skilled in peer-coaching and mentoring, as it relates to at-risk teenagers.
  • To produce interns who have real-life experience working in an urban setting and living in community with all types of people.
  • To give international interns the experience of ministering to youth cross-culturally and living in a foreign country.

How do we do this?

DYFC holds to the Five Essentials of YFC Ministry:

  • Widespread Prayer
  • Loving Relationships
  • Faithful Bible Teaching
  • Collaborative Community Strategy
  • Adults Who Empower

With this in mind, interns are trained to interact with and encourage students in these five areas of effective ministry. All interns are held to a standard from the moment they arrive that exhibits a positive, Godly lifestyle for every DYFC student.

  • Widespread Prayer
    • Interns engage in regular devotional and prayer time with DYFC staff and each other. They are taught the importance of prayer in reaching every student. Each staff member reinforces the lesson that in order to do ministry, there is a personal cost. The majority of that cost is spent in time in prayer for the students of the ministry.
    • No one can do ministry on their own and interns are shown that in order to remain stable and secure in Christ, you must have a personal and powerful prayer life with God. Interns are taught that you can’t possibly have a strong and stable spiritual life without prayer, and you can’t teach students the importance of prayer if you are not taking part in it yourself.
  • Loving Relationships
    • From the moment an intern steps into a DYFC Youth Center, they are engaging in relationships with students who will test them and try them in every way possible. Interns are taught the importance of patience, honesty and vulnerability in relationships and most importantly that we are all imperfect but loved creations of God. By the time an intern has finished their stay with DYFC there is no way they will not be leaving without having experienced firsthand the happiness and hard work found in meaningful relationship with teenagers.
  • Faithful Bible Teaching
    • Interns spend time each week in personal and communal devotion time with God and are personally mentored by DYFC staff. This is a time to ask questions and figure out what their theology and spirituality truly means. Interns are given personal support and training in how to share their personal faith effectively and accurately with students in any kind of environment or circumstances. Each intern is equipped throughout their internship with true teaching on how to minister to students using Biblical fact and revelation in a meaningful and powerful way.
  • Collaborative Community Strategy
    • Interns are directly involved in DYFC’s outreach to local community organizations and the local church family. DYFC makes every effort for interns to see the hard work that goes into finding and fostering local support. Interns have helped organize and execute public ministry events, visited local supporting churches and clubs, as well as fostered relationships in the local congregation they visit each Sunday.
  • Adults Who Empower
    • Interns are supported, encouraged and challenged by all members of the DYFC staff. The Internship Coordinator is available to provide needed assistance with personal and spiritual issues, as well as providing resources and help living in a communal or host family setting. The Center Directors & Executive Director are on hand daily for the interns at their youth center to interact with and learn from. Each member of the team is vital for helping interns establish their own feet in the world and grow into self-sufficient and equipped individuals who will be able to serve the world around them effectively and with integrity.
    • Interns are also challenged to be an empowering role model in each student’s life. Students look up to those that are working in relationship with them and interns are taught that their decisions and lifestyle will directly influence the students around them. Our hope is that inbeing empowered by the leadership staff of DYFC that the interns will then learn what it means to empower others around them.
